What is carrying the load?—Do you know?

Treated wooden railroad ties in service in the United States carry some of the heaviest rail shipments in the world. Individual cars weigh in excess of 130 tons. It is estimated that there is over 700,000,000 wooden ties in use in the U S today. That means that not only are these railroad ties holding up the cars but they are holding onto some 22,000,000 tons of Greenhouse Gases. That is a load that we can all appreciate.

If you need to know… When your pole was made, how your pole was treated, or even what your pole was treated with. Would you know where to look? Poles that are manufactured to ANSI standards carry what is commonly referred to as a brand on them. This brand can be in the form of a heated brand that burns into the wood or a metal tag that is attached to the pole. It can be branded on the side of the pole that will be visible after installation or on the big end of the pole (butt end) or both. The information that is contained on the brand includes length, class (size), treatment chemical used, degree of treatment, date of treatment, specie of wood treated and the treating company. All of which are important at time of installation and years later when the pole is evaluated for condition or upgrade. This is why you want to know you brand!
